Captain (Retd) Colin Chapman
(2009)

It is with great sadness that the ARU report the untimely death of Capt (Retd.) Colin Chapman who worked at the Army Sports Control Board as the Secretary of Boxing and Swimming. As well as being an all round sportsman (Colin also had involvement with Army canoeing and was a keen cyclist) he was also a great supporter of Army and England Rugby and he played for the RAMC as well as all of the units in which he served. He was typical of the grass roots rugby player that enthuses others and ensures that rugby is still a popular sport within our Service. Although Colin sustained a serious leg injury through rugby he ensured that he remained fit through his love of sport for which his enthusiasm was boundless.

Latterly Colin was selected to be an Honorary Steward at Twickenham, he relished this position as he got to watch his beloved England for free! Colin spent many a morning in my office comparing rugby injuries, talking about the merits of various players and the ups and downs of English selection policy, he was particularly proud of the fact that he was present in Sydney when England won the World Cup in 2003. Colin leaves behind 3 children of whom he was rightly proud, Jim and Ian (both currently serving in the Army) and Lauren, our thoughts are with them and his wife Claire.
