Season 2008-2009

REME (G) (3) v Hannover 78 (31) - 18 Oct 08

REME (G) (3) v Hannover 78 (31)
18 Oct 08

On Saturday 18 Oct 08 REME (G) took on the current German leaders of the 2nd Division Hannover 78. Old tie were rekindled last season and REME (G) won that fixture 21 points to 14, this year Hannover 78 have a strengthened squad and are currently pushing for promotion to the 1st Division. REME (G) met up at 2 Bn REME, Fallingbostal on the Friday before the fixture, a good training session followed which prepared the team for the game on Saturday. Kick Off was scheduled for 14.30hrs and the match started at a ferocious pace. Both sides tried to stamp their authority on the game and after a series of plays REME (G) took the lead via a penalty, as the match progressed it was clear to see that Hannover were the better side and regular team training and weekend rugby proved too much for a young inexperienced REME (G) side to compete with. The final score was 31 points to 3 in favour of Hannover 78. REME (G) took plenty of positives out of the match and will look to develop these before the next fixture.

REME (G) (14) v Gutersloh Garrison (37)
17 Sep 08

On Wednesday 17 Sep 08 REME (G) took on a Gutersloh Garrison side at 3 Bn REME Paderborn. Conditions were ideal and both sides looked to play an expansive fast rugby match. The first half saw the lead change twice with some excellent rugby being played. The REME (G) pack dominated and only some excellent defence from the Gutersloh team stop REME (G) converting their pressure into points. Half time score was 17 points to 14 in favour of REME (G). For the first 10 minutes into the second half the match continued as it finished in the first half. With some crunching tackles being made and the pace of the game picking the Gutersloh team started to interlink plays and break the REME (G) defence. A series of clean breaks by Gutersloh Garrison team, which were converted into scores, saw them take the lead. Unfortunately REME (G) could not compete with the increase in pace and finally lost the game 37 points to 14. Both sides played expansive and entertaining rugby and both coaching teams complimented on the level of skill shown and the spirit in which the game was played.
