Sgt Mal Roberts of 9 Supply Regiment RLC was announced as the Captain of the Army Senior XV for the Centenary Season. The announcement was made during the post-match dinner of the Combined Services v Barbarians match at Newbury on 15 November 2006.

Mal had previously captained the team for 5 seasons before handing over the reins to Ed Smith last season. Mal has been at the forefront of Army and Combined Services rugby and has skippered the Combined Services in their two victories over the Barbarians.

Mal is currently running into a rich vein of form for his club Newbury who are enjoying their second season in National One. He has experience in all positions in the back line but is best known for his shrewd tactical kicking. Mal kicked the Army to victory in their 9-3 defeat of the navy last May at Twickenham. Cornishman Mal is married to Sarah Jane and they have a daughter Kiera.
