The main fayre was the rugby and several Units put markers down for the coming season. In the pool games 1 RRF showed a good all round game of rugby, being well organised with flair out in the three quarters, they did not have it all their own way and 2 RTR pushed 1RRF to an even higher standard that had been on display. In the other pool 4 Scots quietly went about their business, marshalled by Kula Lewavakula and aided by the indefatigable Sandy Tarai they won their group. All teams put in valiant performances none more so than 207 Sig Sqn, whose hooker the young Alexander played then refereed, commitment indeed. As for the winners the hosts 32 Engrs won the Bowl, putting away Big Wall’s 3 RHA with ease, the Plate was won by 9/12 Lancers aided by Army players Saulailai and Tuitubou. The Main Final saw Lewavakula lift the Cup after a fine individual performance for 4 Scots, however 1 RRF pushed them all the way. Player of the tournament was won by 1 RRF’s Number 8 Big T Tuinasakea. The organisers thanked everybody for the contribution particularly the referees and then said rugby was the winner. |
