who hosted the BA(G) Rugby 7's over 8/9 May 2007.
Due to the growing popularity of the tournament and the continued support of Commanding Officers the competition was held over two days. Day One saw a league format with each Unit playing against each other in their respective pool, to produce seedings for the knock out phase on Day Two. A new innovation this year saw the introduction of Bowl and Jug competitions to support the traditional Cox Cup and Plate competitions and this format ensured that all teams would play a minimum of six matches irrespective of their results.

Scots DG were keen to mount a strong defence
of their title and it was soon obvious, 1 PWRR,
4 Regt RA, 1 RRF and 5
Rifles were going to mount serious challenges. With 3
RHA, 12 Regt RA and ARRC Sp Bn
also doing well in the pool stages, Day Two promised to live up
to expectations and a winner was difficult to predict.
With the added spice of two new trophies to be won, QDG,
6 Sup Regt, 16 Sig Regt, 1 LSR,
26 Regt RA and 32 Engr Regt were
also looking to go back with silverware. Following these Units were
2 LSR who were unfortunately hit by injuries, despite
the best efforts of Pte's Alofi and Robanakadavu.
Along with 2 LSR, 3 Bn REME and
28 Engr Regt, all three teams put up battling displays
against strong opposition. Day One closed with one of the games
of the tournament. 4 Regt RA fresh from their Gunner
7's triumph went 20 nil up at half time in their pool decider with
5 Rifles. The second period saw the Riflemen attack for the whole
of the 7 minutes only to be denied by 4 'Guns' brave defence. |

Scots DG started proceedings with a comfortable victory on Day Two spurred on by their CO and most of their 1st Round games going to form. The Cox Cup Quarter Finals saw the start of the serious business and 3 RHA, 12 Regt RA and 1 RRF would have been deserving of Semi Final places but for 4 Regt, 1 PWRR and 5 Rifles respectively just edging their Quarter Finals matches. In the Plate Semi Finals, 16 Sigs and 26 Regt RA both had narrow victories over 1 LSR and QDG respectively.

The Cox Cup Semi Finals lived up to expectations and newcomers
5 Rifles just held out champions Scots
DG. Rfn Wara and Rfn Waqatairewa
led a great second half defensive effort to thwart the defending
champions. 1 PWRR defeated 4 Regt RA
in the 2nd Semi Final with a good 7's performance. 4 Regt
RA were lacking a little experience and they could not
get the ball to rising 7's star Gnr Mocesui despite
the best efforts of LBdr Nute.
The final was controlled by 1 PWRR's Army player
Pte Butrodoka and his team mates, despite the best
efforts of 5 Rifles who can rightly be proud of
their efforts. Pte Butrodoka applied pressure when
required and with two scores up, managed the game time to perfection
and were deserved winners of the tournament.

Bowl competition
The Bowl Finalists were 6 Sup Regt and ARRC
Sp Bn who gave the crowd a good game of rugby,
6 Sup just came out on top 19-7.
Jug Competition
- Jug round 2 - 5 Rifles (B) (5) v 3 Bn REME (17)
- Jug round 3 - 28 Engr Regt (17) v 5 Rifles (B) (0)
The Jug Competition was won deservedly by 3 Bn REME
who battled hard without reward on Day One. Capt Paul Chisholm
galvanised his boys overnight, who displayed tremendous enthusiasm
and commitment to get past the other Units in the Jug Competition.
Player of the Tournament
As is traditional at the BA(G) 7's a Player of the Tournament is
announced, this is not necessarily the best player and this years
winner was Rfn Kotze from 5 Rifles who displayed
courage, enthusiasm and a total commitment to his team mates and
the game of rugby throughout the competition.
