Apo Satala - Fijian International and Premiership player
Season 2009-2010

Satala transfers from Gloucester to Sale Sharks

Sale Sharks RFC

After two successful seasons with Gloucester Apo Satala has decided to move to the Sale Sharks for season 2010-11. Apo has made many friends at Gloucester, particularly in the 'Shed' where his bullocking runs and terminally guided tackles have drawn immense applause.

Apo, who is currently with the Army 'Boot Camp' in Cape Town, told the web that he felt there was a special slot for him with the Sharks who, as a club, enjoy a greater freedom in keeping with the Fijian style of playing rugby. No one expresses himself better than Apo on the pleasures of being able to anticipate the game, place himself strategically and play what he finds in front of him. Long may that last !

Apo Satala-Captains the Flying Fijians

The Flying Fijians moved from Dublin to Bucharest to play Romania on Sat 28 November at the Stadio Arcul de Triumf.

To quote from the Fiji Rugby Union web page 'on tour' Apo "was one of the 'stand-outing' players against Ireland and while he is never vocal he is a player that always leads by example and commands the respect of all the players".

Knowing which way the Fijian management was thinking it came as no surprise when Apo was named as captain of his country against Romania and led his side, unusually from lock, to a resounding 29-18 pts victory.

We have gleaned that it was a victory by four tries to two and that the skipper was as always well to the fore. Wish we could give you more but there is a greater chance of an invitation to a White House dinner than to connect with a mobile in Romania.

Anyone who wants a good 'rugby read' should try www.fijirugby.com which charts the teams progress through Europe in a very light hearted manner.

Apo Satala scores for the Combined Services v Baa-Baas

Apo Satala (1 SCOTS) represented Fiji against Ireland in Dublin on Sat 21 November 2009. Having watched the highlights on BBC iPlayer it is clear that Apo had a barnstorming game against the 6 Nations and Grand Slam champions. Fiji were beaten 40pts-6 in a very fast moving match under the new roof , but the balance of play appeared somewhat closer than the final points tally would suggest. The new (ish) Sunday magazine 'The Rugby Paper' scored Apo as a 'six'. The Fiji camp now moves on to play Rumania on Sat 28 November with Apo inked in for the No6 shirt-we will attempt to follow progress via the international 'wires'.

Apo Satala capped at Murrayfield

Apo Satala (1 SCOTS) has been picked to play for Fiji against Scotland at Murrayfield on Sat 14 November 2009. Even with this tremendous news under his belt, Apo played a great part in the Combined Services victory over the mighty Barbarians by 22pts-19. Apo scored the first Services try after the Baa-Baas had gone ahead 5pts in the opening minute.
