Colonel Bruce Baker MB ChB MRCGP Dip STI MFSEM(UK) - BA (G) Team Doctor
|
|
Colonel
Bruce's interest in rugby started whilst attending the Duke of York’s
Royal Military School where he played for Kent at U16/U18 level
and Streatham and Croydon youth team. He attended Birmingham University
Medical School (which goes by the acronym BUMS!) between 1978-83
and then went onto commission into the RAMC in 1985. A robust backrower
who was equally at home in all three postions, he played unit rugby
and played for the RAMC Corps team. In 1990-92 he represented Brunei
Wanderers in Singapore Sevens and Hong Kong Tens. He lists his military
highlights as being a RMO and holding the post of SMO UKSF, Hereford
1998-2001. His passion for rugby has never dampened but has taken
a back seat to his professional studies where he has qualified as
a MB ChB in 1983 at Birmingham University Medical School, qualifying
for General Practice in 1990, attaining a Diploma in Sports Injuries
(Bath University) in 2000, and becoming a Member of the Faculty
of Sports Injuries UK. He is also listed as a doctor on the British
Olympic Medical Centre list. He is qualified in acupuncture which
will no doubt worry the playing members of the BA (G) squad!

Major Phil Simmonds Gütersloh RRU - BA (G)
Team Lead Physiotherapist
|
|
Phyllida's education in rugby started with her father taking her
to watch Dusty Hare play - for those who are to young - google him, he
is a rugby legend! Her rugby physiotherapy training started whilst she
was at Brunel University where she was the physiotherapist for their 1st
XV and an apprentice at Richmond Rugby Club. Once qualified, she was the
physiotherapist for the London Irish Exiles U21 but then she saw the light
and joined up in 2000. After the Vicars & Tarts course she became the
Lead Physiotherapist for the U21 XV and U21 Combined XV accompanying them
on two very successful tours to South Africa and Canada. In 2004 she relinquished
the reins on posting to Germany but returned pitch side on her return
to the UK to be the physiotherapist for the Gunner 1st XV. In 2006, she
ventured for the first time to Sevens' with the Marauders. She reports
that she loved it, partially because a large percentage of their tournaments
are in the sun.
Amongst the rugby tours, she has squeezed in operational tours and is
nearing the end of a MSc in Physiotherapist. Like Col Bruce, Phyllida
has also qualified in acupuncture so the BFG team have no hopes of escape!
